Momentum Yeti - Program for 11 - 14 year olds

December 9- March 9 (no practice on 12/23)

2023-2024 PROGRAM INFORMATION

Yeti is perfect for kids who have attended a couple of Mavericks sessions and want more time on snow this winter.  The program will run two days a week (Wednesday and Saturday) between December and February. Cost to participate for the 2023-2024 season is $700, scholarships are available.  The Wednesday session will happen in the afternoon/early evening (get your headlamps ready!) and the Saturday session will happen on Saturday mornings at the same time as the Mavericks program.  All sessions except the December Wednesday night sessions will happen at Snoqualmie Pass. We are going to do our best to support carpooling and rides in our team van, especially on Wednesdays, but you might want to use this as a chance to spend more time with the ski community yourself!

2023-2024 Race Schedule (including races recommended for Yeti)

How do you know if your skier is ready for Yeti?

  • Are they confident on skis and ready to test out more independence on the trails?

  • Are they ready to go a bit longer and harder in a given session than they did in Mavericks?

  • Are they interested in racing but don’t have a lot of experience? Or are they still exploring how much interest they have in racing?

If you have questions about Yeti send us an email.

A TYPICAL DAY FOR YETI

Wednesdays, 5:30-7:30 pm:  Meet your coach at Cabin Creek trails (exit 63 on I-90).  Don’t forget your headlamp!  We’ll split the group into two groups by age and ability and assign every skier a buddy to stick with.  Once kids are comfortable skiing in the dark with a headlamp, we’ll start venturing further out.  As the group progresses and the days get longer, we’ll have fun exploring the entire trail system (weather and conditions permitting)

Saturdays,  9-11 am:  Meet your coach at Cabin Creek and get ready for a fun but challenging day on the trails with your group.  Like Wednesday, there will be fun games and drills to work on balance, strength, and speed, but the Saturday classes will cover more of the trails, adding more distance and intensity and encouraging the kids to begin to feel more independence and self-reliance (while still having plenty of support).

us ski and snowboard Membership

US Ski and Snowboard is the governing body for skiing in the United States. As a US Ski and Snowboard Club, all our Yeti participants need to be USS General Members. Please also note that every child who participates in Momentum Yeti needs a corresponding membership to US Ski & Snowboard.

You will be able to purchase the General Youth Membership with USSS after you complete the Yeti registration for your child/children. We will contact you if you are participating in Yeti and your skier is not on the Momentum Northwest (club) roster. The USSS General Membership is $30. If you are renewing the deadline is October 15th, after which there are late fees. New members are not subject to late fees.

Cancellation Policy

Our Yeti program is designed to progress the interest and skills of young cross-country ski racers in a fun and safe environment. To ensure the happiness and safety of our participants and their families, there are situations when scheduled Yeti sessions may be delayed or cancelled. The Yeti schedule each winter will be built with pre-identified make-up days (at least one, but ideally two) so parents and coaches can keep these days in reserve from the start of the season.

Situations, where Yeti may be delayed or cancelled, can include:

  • I-90 is closed by WSDOT, including weather or other blocking incidents

  • Lack of snow

  • Extreme weather conditions

Delay or cancellation of Yeti will consider projected roadway opening times, weather forecasts and other factors. If Yeti will be delayed or cancelled, coaches will attempt to email participants before 7am on the morning of Yeti practices. Please note, there are situations where remote communications may be impacted and it may not be possible to send a prompt message.

A delay in Yeti would likely push back the start by 30-60 minutes and would attempt to align with roadway openings or weather changes. If a delay of 2 hours is necessary, Yeti would likely be cancelled for that day.

If Yeti is cancelled, a make-up session will be confirmed, if possible. Make-up sessions may include additional Yeti sessions or extending other scheduled Yeti sessions.

Refund Policy

Refunds are only available if the participant has an injury or medical condition preventing participation. A letter from the doctor will be needed explaining the injury or condition. You will be refunded for the cost of tuition for the remaining program minus a $40 administrative fee.
