Races

While we don’t expect all of our participants to race, we think everyone should experience the thrills of Race Day! There are two different race series that we compete in: Junior National Qualifiers (JNQ) and Washington Nordic Cups (WNC). Transportation for Comp & Devo participants is provided. Families often attend races, and Devo-Lite participants travel with their family. Some carpooling may be necessary if the van is full.

Junior National Qualifiers run for four weekends from December through February, taking place in venues in Washington, Oregon, and Utah. These races are used by U16s, U18s, and U20s to qualify for the Junior National competition in March. However, most clubs hosting these races also hold fun races for the region’s younger skiers.

The Washington Nordic Cup is a series of five races which take place from the end of December through the beginning of March. These races, while competitive for our older skiers, are focused on giving younger skiers a positive racing experience.

If you plan on competing in JNQ races you will need to get a US Ski and Snowboard membership with your age group. Please see the US Ski and Snowboard section below for where to do this.

US Ski and Snowboard

US Ski and Snowboard (USS) is the governing body for Nordic Skiing in the United States. Our Junior National Qualifier races are sanctioned by USS, which means a membership is required if you want to qualify for Junior Nationals.

If you are not planning on qualifying for Junior Nationals you may still compete in JNQs with a “General” membership, which we require as a club for participation in our programming.
