Stress & Rest
An element of well-being is aiming for a balance between stress and rest. We experience stress in both physical and mental forms. Physical stress describes physical load, like exercise! Physical activity is a stress on our bodies – but exercise is good, right? Yes! In moderation. Meaning, that exercise is productive as long as we are adequately resting and recovering from the activity. Mental stress contributes to our overall stress and our bodies cannot distinguish physical and mental stress, highlighting the importance of rest, relaxation and recovery. Rest and recovery come in the form of sleep and nutrition.
What is training load/training stress?
In a workout we “stress” our muscles and cardiovascular system to a limited amount and duration.
In order to reap the benefits of that workout, we allow the body to rest and recovery. Rest is an opportunity for our bodies to rebuild.
In a practical sense, that means:
Sleep enough (8-10 hours/day)
Care for mental health
Eat enough
Sleeping enough is simple – just do it.
