Relative Energy Deficiency - Syndrome

Signs of chronic under fueling/ low energy availability include:

  • Hungry or complete absence of hunger cues

  • Low iron/anemia

  • Low energy

  • Moodiness or decline in mental health

  • GI distress

  • Loss of menstruation

  • Illness/immune suppression

  • Obsessive thoughts about food

  • Unexplained or excessive fatigue

  • Recurrent illness

  • Sports injury (recurrent)

  • Plateau in sports/fitness development or declining performance

  • Iron deficiency

  • Loss of enjoyment in sport

For female-bodied athletes, loss of periods due to exercise is NEVER normal.
